Improving Through Critique

Wed Apr 18, 2012, 10:41 PM by ~orangel8989:iconorangel8989:
Improvement and quality are two of our biggest goals here at #MLP-VectorClub. We love seeing people go from having no clue as to what they’re doing to an amazing high quality path tool master. Still, there is always room for improvement, even for more weathered ones.

The admins are always willing to provide advice for people who would like it. Whether it’s just quick pointers or an in-depth “fix-all,” we’re here to assist people in becoming a better vector artist. There are several ways to ask for help:

:bulletorange: Place a :iconccwelcomedplz1::iconccwelcomedplz2: badge in the comments section of your submission. (That’s iconccwelcomedplz1 and iconccwelcomedplz2) By using these, our vector inspectors will know to take a close look at your image and point out any errors they can find, major and minor.  While we do check every vector before it’s approved, adding this badge will show us that you would like some more help than normal, and appreciate criticisms. You can also add the badge to the description to show others you're looking for feedback. This lets everybody know you're looking for ways to improve so they can go on a hunt for errors.

:bulletorange: If you have a vector you'd really like to polish up, you can get one-on-one feedback privately by contacting one of us admins individually.   We'll pick on every little error we see and fuss about things until you fix them. It sounds harsh, but isn’t that what you wanted? :iconfluttershywinkplz:

:bulletorange: Check out our sister site on reddit: r/MLPVectors! Here countless others can (and will!) critique your vector if you ask. Also, if you need help with something specific to your application, there are countless others who watch the subreddit who are willing to help. It’s a great place to learn and share knowledge.

Also, we'd like to hear from you guys about the new quality standards. Are you seeing lots of errors, or is quality not an issue for you?

:iconapplejacksmileplz:We really want to hear from y’all so please leave a comment below!

If you came here from the group description, have you read and agreed to the rules and want to become a member?

I have a question, I put a :iconccwelcomedplz1::iconccwelcomedplz2: badge in the comments section of a submission request, but I didn't get a response, just an approval after a few days. Just to make sure I did it right, do I simply add the request to put the submission in the gallery, then go to the correspondence message and add the badge on the comments of the submission request?

Leaving a comment is a fine for making the badge visible to the VIs. We probably just didn't see anything worth noting on your submission. :3

Well, it would be nice to be told there isn't anything worth noting. It is very disappointing not to get a response to a critique request.

Hay - feel free to Critique any of my work - I'm always trying to improve so any pointers would be nice. Also just realized the program I'm using PS is not recommended so I guess I'm doing things the hard way XD.

I frequent /r/MLPVectors to give constructive criticism, and I would love the opportunity to get more people submitting there. We've got some REALLY, REALLY talented people over there who are more than willing to help young vectorererers improve.

How long does one typically have to wait to get feedback? I posted a full scene I created and it was well received (+17) but have received no actual feedback despite putting [C] in it's title. Should I just submit it to this group despite my own nagging feelings that something is off?

Well, here at the Vector Club it's more likely that you'll get a critique done. It's much more option on the sub.

I'm liking this idea! I'll probably use it when I make ponies again.
