#MLP-VectorClub

Infinitely scalable ponies
A reminder is needed for everyone to properly give credit to original authors. Many of you do post links to the original vector artists when using their content, but we also see far too much laziness.

If you're uploading something containing work made by someone else, this must be done with explicit credit given in the description! The main purpose of this group is to be a vector resource, but we have hundreds of contributors who allow different levels of reuse or none at all.

To find out if you can reuse a vector:

:bulletblue: Check the description for any notice about how it can be reused, or if it is denied.

:bulletblue: Look for these badges:
:iconyouareplz::iconallowedplz: :icongouseplz::iconthisartplz: :icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz: :iconnoncommercial1plz::iconnoncommercial2plz:

:bulletblue: Check the type of copyright used on the deviation. If it is, for example, an attribution-noncommercial-sharealike creative commons release, you can share it with the same type of copyright if you attribute it to them and don't use it for profit.

:bulletblue: If none of these are helpful, contact the user directly.

If you can link directly to a deviation you used, do it. It really isn't hard to write "Original by x" with a link to their work, and then everyone who likes it can follow that to get the unmodified resource. It benefits the creators of the original work. Otherwise, you are benefiting from the work of others without so much as a copy-pasted link as appreciation, and we don't like to see that. Reverse image searches used to find the author will fail if you've modified it in any major way.

Direct re-uploads of other users' work are of course strictly prohibited, by us and by the rules of DeviantArt. Anyone who does this and tried to submit here will be warned, and if they do not remove the stolen work, banned from the group. There have been a handful of users we have needed to ban for this reason.

All content you wish to put in this group must be owned by you, or at least have proper credit given in the description. Recolors and changes made with raster programs are never accepted, and of course screenshots straight from the show aren't either.

Lastly, if you haven't noticed already, there have been changes to the group's description, which has all the rules we expect members to follow. There's also a new area in the left sidebar with a number of links to helpful vector-related resources. With the help of the new administrators we've raised the bar for quality in submissions by giving even more advice and critiques.

We've also gained another Vector Inspector (the new title for Contributor) so please welcome :iconfabulouspony: ~FabulousPony to the administrator team :)

Comments and suggestions are welcome so please post away!

Early vector clean up

Thu May 9, 2013, 10:26 AM by ~Quasdar:iconquasdar:
The #MLP-VectorClub strives to create a collection of high quality vectors of the show. However, back when this group started, there was no set of specific quality requirements like the rule-set we have today. The rules as they stand today ensure a consistent quality level in the gallery.

For a long time, a difficult problem for us has been trying to figure out what to do with the old vectors that came into the Club before the rules were there. Today we'd like to announce we've come to a decision on how best to handle them. After much discussion it has been decided that a clean-up is in order for all folders to resolve this issue. In one week the admins will be scanning through the gallery and removing vectors that are noticeably not up to the standard. Don’t worry though; if they were yours, simply fix them up and resubmit. They will be inspected, and when they meet the new requirements, added to the Club again! This process will ensure that when you view an item in our gallery it's something that the admins stand behind as a good model of how to make that type of vector.

Need a refresher on the group’s quality requirements?

Head on over to the main page for the complete breakdown. In short, make sure your vector follows these standards:

:bulletblack: If you traced from the show, you must link to your vector files.
:bulletblack: Avoid these common mistakes.
:bulletblack: Export your image at as high a resolution as you can, at MINIMUM 3kx3k pixels.
:bulletblack: Trace from a 1080p copy of the show.
:bulletblack: Use our color guide.
:bulletblack: Be aware of the difference between RBG and CMYK color modes, and use RGB.
:bulletblack: Save losslessly (PNG, not JPG for stills; APNG/SVG/FLV/SWF, not GIF for animation).
:bulletblack: Keep your source vector file even if you don’t post it, and back it up safely! Be prepared for the possibility of hard drive failures, theft of hardware, natural disasters, fires, and/or accidental deletion. Having it in two places on the same computer isn’t really safe. Dropbox and Sta.sh are two excellent web services.

We’d also like to announce that we have new Vector Inspectors to support our team! These fine deviants will now be helping to inspect your vector submissions:

Thank you for your attention! We wish you the best and hope you enjoy what we have in store for you in the future :D

Fluttershy Wants You!

Tue Apr 9, 2013, 2:26 PM by *Kired25:iconkired25:
Hello, Vector Fans and Artists!

We have an exciting announcement!

Andrea Libman, the wonderful voice behind Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie, is doing a Ride to Conquer Cancer and needs our help. She has requested a vector of Fluttershy to appear on her team's jersey sleeve.

If you think you can help, then put your vector skills to the test! Make sure to submit your finished vectors to the :iconandreas-rtcc-art: #Andreas-RTCC-Art group.

If you're currently unable to help with the requested vector, but would still like to assist in some way, you can donate to her team and others on the Conquer Cancer site and Andrea's personal page.

You can find the original request here

If you want help improving your vector before you submit, ask for a critique from the helpful folks at MLP Vectors subreddit :).

Good luck to everyone!

*The #MLP-VectorClub holds no authority or pull in this, save bringing it to the attention of our members and watchers.

What Vector Reservations Are:

People usually get excited about episodes, and start making vectors of any pose/object/etc. that they found hilarious/interesting enough. It often results in various people unnecessarily doing the very same thing. Vector Reservations can help organize our efforts by listing who's working on what, to reduce the number of duplicates.

Rules

:bulletblue::bulletblue: 1) ALWAYS post about reservations and requests as a comment on this post in the following manner:

RESERVATION: [link to the screencap] - brief description of what you want to make

or

REQUEST: [link to the screencap] - brief description of what you want to see vectored

Suggested places to host images: Sta.sh (strongly recommended!), PostImage.org, Imgur.com

Remember that you MUST have an image to make a reservation! For the best quality, get your references from the episode in 240p.

:bulletblue::bulletblue: 2) Making a reservation does NOT forbid other people from working on a pose anyway. It is only information that you are working on it, so other people can coordinate to avoid doing the same thing twice.

:bulletblue::bulletblue: 3) There are no time limits, but remember that the longer you wait, the greater the chance that someone might take your pose anyway. It's generally advised to finish your reservations before a new episode comes out.

:bulletblue::bulletblue: 4) The are no limits on the number of reservations you can make, but you need to remember about your own limits and what rule #3 says. It's generally advised not to take more than 3 reservations at a time.

:bulletblue::bulletblue: 5) Please remember that you have to be a member of the group in order to make a reservation. The idea is to add the finished vector to the gallery, so it has to meet all of our quality requirement.

Hello everyone!

We just wanted to inform you that because of Twilight Sparkle becoming an alicorn, we made a few small changes in our folders. Here they are:

:bulletgreen: "Celestia and Luna" folder was renamed to "Princesses";

:bulletgreen: Princess Cadance's subfolder from the "Minor Characters" was moved to the "Princesses" folder;

:bulletgreen: And most importantly, alicorn Twilight Sparkle now has her own subfolder in the "Princesses" folder called "Princess Twilight Sparkle".

The original folder for Twilight Sparkle will be now restricted to her wingless form only. Any submissions involving Twilight's winged form should be submitted to the "Princess Twilight Sparkle" subfolder in the "Princesses" folder (except for ones that would fit more in the "Other - Original Style" folder).

This would be everything. Thank you for taking the time to read this. :)
