The following guidelines should be used to determine the proper folder for inclusion. For simplicity: Original Characters (OC)
are truly original characters unassociated with other published works.
Ponification of characters from other published works are considered Crossovers Original Style (OS)
are works that significantly vary from the show style. This includes ponies with no fills, detailed shadows and shading, only black outlines, etc.
All other vectors go in a folder detailed below. In addition to our main folders, there are a number of subfolders.
Folders with subfolders include Group
, Minor Characters
, Equestria Girls Resources - Objects and stuff
, and Other
See below for each folder's unique submission requirements:
"Featured" contains vector images that stand out from the crowd as exceptional
. The definition of "exceptional" is up to the admins of VectorClub. Direct submission to this group is not enabled. To nominate work for the Featured folder send the group a note with a link to the piece you feel should be included. The piece being nominated must already be in the group. Self-nomination is allowed, but dis
couraged. Those who repeatedly nominate sub-par works will be warned and/or ignored. 4.2*
Vector-related guides should be put in "Tutorials". Be sure to use the subfolders if the tutorial is program-specific. Since they tend to be very tall, simply make them at least 1000 pixels wide (they do not
need to meet the 3000 pixel minimum size). These will likely be reviewed by all active Vector Inspectors for quality and appropriateness. The tutorial should be concise and about a single topic; lengthy demonstrations or those covering several topics should probably be split into multiple tutorials. 4.3*
Custom comics should go to the "Comics" folder. Since they tend to be very tall, simply make them at least 1000 pixels wide (they do not
need to meet the 3000 pixel minimum size). 4.4*
Wallpapers for desktops and mobile devices go in the "Wallpapers" folder. We only accept PNG format images, but you can put formats other than PNG (such as JPG) in the description. Submissions to this folder must NOT be the kind of content anyone can create in a matter of minutes, and they have to be entirely vector-based. Desktop wallpapers should be at a high display resolution
of at least 1920x1080 (though you may include the wallpaper at other resolutions as links as well). Wallpapers for mobile devices should be similarly at a high resolution considering new mobile devices will have similar 1920x1080 resolutions. Wallpapers do not have to meet the minimum 3000 pixel size required for other vectors, but please include your vector file, so people can generate their own sizes. 4.5*
Animated works should be put in the "Animations" folder. FLA
are accepted, but not GIF
s alone! GIFs are a poor choice of format for publishing your work if you don't provide alternatives, because they can only have 256 colors
and very rough transparency, where the others have full support for millions of colors and transparency. 4.6*
Interactive works including games should be put in the "Games and Interactive" folder.
For all other vector submissions, the following flowchart should be used to determine the appropriate folders:
Equestria Girls (EQG) style humanized characters
Humanized characters that are based on Equestria Girls (either in the show style or original style) should be submitted to the Equestria Girls folder. This includes any human OCs, group shots, wallpapers, backgrounds, or images with both human and pony characters. Pony versions of Equestria Girls characters (like Sunset Shimmer, Flash Sentry, and ponified versions of background characters) should be submitted to the respective "standard" folders below. Similarly, humanized or anthropomorphic versions of characters that are not in Equestria Girls style should be submitted to OC or Original Style as described below.
Show-style, show-canon characters only
Vectors of these characters with a background should be sorted into "With Background" 4.9
Vectors consisting of only the Mane 6 and/or Spike should go to the "Main Six and Spike" folder. Solo character vectors should be sorted into their respective folders, while group shots are submitted to this top folder. Note: Solo vectors of Princess Twilight with her crown should be placed in the "Princess Twilight Sparkle" folder under "Princesses". 4.10
Vectors consisting of only the Princesses (solo or group) (including Princess Twilight with her crown) should be in the "Princesses" folder; solo characters into their respective folders and groups at the top level. 4.11
Vectors consisting of only the Cutie Mark Crusaders should be in the "CMC" folder; solo characters into their respective folders and groups at the top level. CMC group shots with Babs Seed should be placed here. Babs Seed solo vectors should be placed in her folder under "Minor Characters". 4.12
Vectors consisting of only antagonists (generally, any character that has challenged any of the Mane 6 in any fashion at any time during the show, including those that have reformed) should be in the "Antagonist" folder, which has subfolders for several of the major ones including Trixie, Gilda, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, Nightmare Moon, Discord, and more. For antagonists without such folders, submit these to the top level "Antagonist" folder. 4.13
The "Minor Characters" and "Background Characters" folders are for single character vectors only. Generally obscure, reoccurring, characters which are used to fill crowds and mostly don't have any speaking roles should be put in "Background Characters". All ponies that don't have their own folders, but are more popular and well-known are in "Minor Characters". This folder includes subfolders for characters like DJ P0N-3, Octavia, Lyra and Bon-Bon. There is also a folder for "Other Sentient Species" for characters otherwise not classified as antagonists, like Cranky and Matilda, Iron Will, Gustave and other griffons, Crackle the Dragon, and the Breezies. Group vectors still should go in the "Group" folder. 4.14
Non-pony creatures, animals and pets should be put in "Creatures and pets"; this includes Breezies. These can include group shots consisting of only these types of characters, but if they are grouped with any other character, these should go with the "Group" folder. 4.15
Group shots (2 or more) that are not already covered above should be placed into the "Group" folder.
Original style, show-canon characters only
Vectors in Original Style goes into the "Original Style" folder. It has similar structure to the main folders and the priority for subfolders is the same as described above. Original style vectors will still be reviewed for certain quality aspects.
Vectors based on crossovers with other published works should be put into "Crossovers". This includes ponifications of characters from other works (including groups with canon characters), or placing canon characters into a crossover situation. Vectors should be put here even if they have backgrounds or use an original style.
An image containing at least one OC, regardless of any other canon characters it contains or whether it is show or original style, should go into OCs folder, this includes with background, groups, crossovers, etc. OCs must be high quality just like any other vector submitted to us. Also, they cannot be based on any pose from a pony creator, or be recolors of an existing vector.
IDW comics characters or style
Vectors that are either based on using one or more characters that have originated in the IDW MLPFIM comics, with or without other canon characters, or are based on the styles used by the comics, should be placed in the "Other - Official IDW Comics" folder.
Related canon/show-inspired characters
Vectors based on the show's past generations (such as Firefly or Surprise), or crossover/ponification of other show characters, or other ponies introduced by Hasbro's marketing (such as the horoscope ponies), should be placed in "Other - Other characters".
If you have an MLP-based character image that otherwise does not fit any of the above categories, place it in the "Other" folder.
Objects and the like should be put in "Resources - Objects and stuff". Please remember that this folder has multiple subfolders, so submit your deviation to them if you think that there is one that fits! 4.23
Cutie Marks, either from the show or OC, should be put in "Resources - Cutie Marks". Use the appropriate subfolder if applicable. 4.24
Vectorized backgrounds, absent of any characters, should be placed in the "Resources - Background" folder. 4.25
Templates, such as vector bases, color guides, and similar tools should be placed in the "Other - Templates" folder. 4.26
Vectorized badges and logos should go in the "Other - Badges and Logos" folder.
Any image that is expected to not have any reuse capability, may be allowed in without meeting the minimum image size requirements (3k x 3k) on a case-by-case basis. Examples could include OCs with background, OS with background, etc. In these cases, a high resolution file may be required privately for critique purposes.
